Bogn Engiadina Scuol / Engadin Bad Scuol
The origin of today's Bogn Engiadina Scuol
The bathhouse with twenty bathing cabins was built in the village center of Scuol in 1878. These were cabins, each with a wooden bathtub. For the baths, the Sotsass and Vi mineral water springs were connected directly to the bathhouse. The number of bathing cabins was continuously increased until 1948. With the introduction of the winter season in the 1950s, the bathhouse was set up for winter use in 1956. From that point on there were offers such as fango, baths, massages and drinking cures.
In 1985, the municipal council of Scuol set up a commission called "Center da cura" and various working groups. The aim was to build a modern, new bathhouse. In 1988, the population approved the loan for the realization of the new bathing center. The Bogn Engiadina Scuol (BES) was built in a construction period of a good three years. It was officially opened on March 1, 1993. The bathroom was one of the most modern in the Alps. It was the first adventure pool in Switzerland to offer a Roman-Irish bath.
The new bathing and wellness center with therapy offers quickly developed into an important economic factor for the Lower Engadine. It helped Scuol to develop modern spa tourism, which complements and upgrades the existing tourist offers in the best possible way. With around 100 jobs, the BES is one of the largest employers in the region. The investment of over CHF 50 million in the BES was a courageous decision for a community of 2,000 people. From an economic point of view, however, this decision was worth it.
