The mayor of Cologne and the CEOs of Toyota and RheinEnergie each planted a tree. Around 300 invited guests followed suit. The Cologne Forest Laboratory is an experimental field designed to provide new insights and information about what the forest of the future will look like, how it should be managed, and how the effects of climate change in Germany can be reduced. The research facility is conducting experiments in four areas: the changing forest, the energy forest, the climate forest, and the wilderness forest.
