The Almocábar gate was built in the 13th century and takes its name from the Arabic "Al-maqabir", which means cemetery. It was named for its location near the necropolis. Later, after the Christian conquest in the 15th century, it began to be called "Gate of Charles V", whose imperial coat of arms is hung on the façade.

The well-preserved city gate from the 13th century is a very nice entrance to the old town of Ronda. From here you can go straight to the high Puente Nuevo bridge.
