Hiking
The Billiger Forest contains a military training area and a Bundeswehr firing range.
Parts of the forest were cleared and reclaimed between 1949 and 1950 by the five farming families who had settled there. The first houses were built in 1949 by the then "Rheinisches Heim" settlement company. In 1960, the settler plots were sold to the families who had settled there. Today, this settlement is called Billiger Wald, where the descendants of the former settler families live. However, this settlement is not associated with the town of Billig, but rather with Euenheim.

Dangerous relics of the Cold War are omnipresent in the depths of the Eifel forests: abandoned installations that are now being reclaimed by nature. Nike missiles with a range of 200 km were stationed here. In an emergency, they could have been equipped with nuclear warheads – and led to a nuclear conflict on the soil of the Federal Republic of Germany. An exclusive look at the missile sites today and then.
