Location: Fortrose And Rosemarkie, Highlands, Scotland, United Kingdom
Standing in a grassy square at the heart of Fortrose, the atmospheric ruins of Fortrose Cathedral date back to the 1300s, although the diocese of Ross is thought to have existed since around 700.
Only a small portion of the original building still stands, but the delicate stone vaulting and remains of some window tracery are still clearly visible.

An impressive ruin, which has had most of its stonework plundered over the years. It is maintained by Historic Scotland, and is free to visit.
