The approx. 1 km long stretch of river on the south-eastern outskirts of Karlstein/Thaya was declared a natural monument because of its ecological diversity. This was achieved in December 2008 on the initiative of the Friends of the Thaya Valley association.
For a better understanding of the population, a river educational trail with currently 16 display boards was set up in this area. During a walk along the flood protection dam, you have the opportunity to learn more about the water, aquatic animals, wild herbs, the "Hangenstein legend" and much more.
