The historic railway viaduct near Niederscheld impresses with its massive stone architecture and spans the valley elegantly. A short stop is worthwhile – perfect for photos, a moment to catch your breath, and to soak up the special atmosphere of this place.

The Niederscheld railway viaduct was built in 1871-1872 for the Dillenburg-Oberscheld railway line. With the extension of the line to Biedenkopf, it became part of the Scheldetalbahn (Scheldt Valley Railway) in 1911. The viaduct spans the Scheldt River and two roads over a total length of 120 meters. It has a gentle S-curve, thus following the course of the valley. The railway line runs over six equally sized arches, each with a clear span of 16 meters. The piers, constructed of limestone ashlar masonry, are approximately 2.5 meters thick.

The railway line was closed at the end of May 1987. The track bed has largely disappeared. The viaduct is a listed historical monument. It is classified as significant for its historical importance in the context of mining history and also for its artistic significance, particularly its ashlar cladding and details such as the pier caps.
