The "Castle of Veerle", locally known as "the castle of the baron" and as castle "Zerezo de Tejada" (Google incorrectly gives two buildings on the map) is located next to rest home De Winde, Day care center Het Kasteel and more. It was donated to the church of Veerle by Baron Raymond de Zerezo in 1849. It is not really the intention to visit it, although it sometimes opens its doors. In the beautiful gardens, the locals sometimes seek some peace and quiet. Also interesting is the history of the building and the role of its former inhabitants in the region. The Zerezo family was a wealthy bourgeois family based in Diest who, like many others, wanted a castle in bygone times.

Incidentally, there is a statue of Baron Raymond de Zerezo on the church in Veerle, where his burial vault is also located.

Together with the de Merode family, unavoidable in the region (be sure to check out the Merode walks), the family was the top two taxpayers in Veerle in the second half of the 19th century.

Park with pond at the back accessible. The building can be viewed during a walk, but pay attention: the complex is located on a very busy road, so quickly take one of the many hiking trails (including to Gerhagen or to Averbode or why not the village itself to name just a few) is the message.
