The parish village is about 17 kilometers south-west of Coburg between the Beerrangen, the Sandberg and the Riedelzug of the "Schwarzen Feld". To the east, the valley of the Alster opens up. In the north, the federal highway 303 runs past Coburg in the direction of Schweinfurt. State road 2428 connects Hafenpreppach with Wasmuthhausen.

The settlement came into existence around 800 when the Carolingians set up a Franconian dairy. Nearby is the Burgstall Alte Burg, a ring wall probably from the early Middle Ages.

The first documented mention was in 1290, when the Würzburg Bishop Manegold pledged Geiersberg Castle, including the “Breitenpach” dairy belonging to the castle, to Karl von Heldritt. The description of the location "behind Altenstein Castle" and the order in which it is listed immediately after Wasmuthhausen and Merlach are indications that Hafenpreppach and not Unterpreppach was described.[2] In 1456, Jörg von Stein zu Altenstein received three parts of the tithe for "Gerewt near Hafenbreitbach".[3] At the end of the 15th century, Hafenpreppach belonged to the original parish and to the Sesslach district court. Duke Johann Friedrich considered Wilhelm von Stein in 1532, who had a palace built in 1560.

A first castle was built in 1560 and blown up in 1960. The current castle was built in the Baroque style between 1714 and 1718.

Evangelical Lutheran Parish Church of the Holy Trinity

The Evangelical Lutheran Parish Church of the Holy Trinity was first mentioned in 1520 as St. Jacob's Church. It belonged as a daughter church to the original Seßlach parish. In 1530 the Reformation was introduced. Today's late baroque complex, a hall church with a mansard hipped roof, was inaugurated in 1722. The three-story, 28 meter high facade tower has a Welsche hood. The choir room is located in the basement and is spanned by a cross vault.

A total of five architectural monuments are listed in the Bavarian Monuments List.
