They were always tilted toward the center of the field, which thereby became increasingly raised. Wheat, barley, rye, oats, spelt, and millet, as well as beans, flax, and poppy, were grown on these so-called vaulted fields. Their remnants can be seen today in the heath and forest as wave-like formations with "hills" and "valleys."
