After crossing the towers of fraele, ancient and powerful buildings from the fourteenth century, we reach the artificial lakes of Cancano, created in the last century for the production of electricity and now managed by A2A, and that led to the creation of a unique, ideal environment for walking, trekking and mountain biking in the high mountain forests of Valtellina. The lakes are fed with water from the Spòl, from the torrents of Alpe, Gavia, Frodolfo, Zebrù, Braulio, Viola and Forcola and, in even from the most famous river Adda, which has its springs nearby. To reach the lakes of Cancano, simply follow the signs along the road that leads from Bormio towards Livigno, deviating near the Premadio village along a road that climbs steeply up to the Fraele pass. Along the way there are numerous dining options and picnic areas.
