On April 13, 1945, the Wehrmacht gave up the front line east of the Vorbach and built a new front line from Oberrimbach to Funkstatt.
The Wehrmacht had entrenched themselves in this strip of forest.

The commander SS General Max Simon moved his command center from the town hall of Wermutshausen to the brewery restaurant Gold Ochsen in Spielbach. He was also responsible for death sentences in Brettheim.

From the literature it can be deduced:
After the German troops had rushed through Wildentierbach, the advancing Americans occupied the place on April 13 at 10 a.m.
Further east, in the area of Heimberg and Wolkersfelden, the Americans again encountered fierce resistance, for the Germans had re-established themselves in the forests of Unteeichenrot and Wolkersfelden.

For a while they were able to resist the enemy infantry attacking from Heimberg, but they could not hold out for long against the tanks advancing from Oberrimbach and retreated further east towards Spielbach during the course of April 14.
April 14 was the day of the fight in Wolkersfelden. First, an American infantry squad of about 100 men penetrated Wolkersfelden, then at noon 6 tanks followed from Lichtel, which drove through the hamlet at 2 p.m. and then advanced towards the forest between Wolkersfelden and Spielbach. Rearguard fighting broke out in the evening, with a tank sinking in a swamp north of town.
Four fallen German soldiers were later found at the hard-fought edge of the forest.

Fighting continued over the next few days. In particular, the main town of Spielbach and the hamlet of Oreichenrot were stubbornly defended by German SS soldiers under General Simon. The American artillery then occupied the towns of Ober- and Unterreichenrot, Böhmweiler, Enzenweiler and Heiligenbronn with prolonged fire.

A total of 5 houses and 19 barns were destroyed.
In Spielbach, the church tower received a direct hit.
