The church, dating from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, is a late Gothic structure built of ashlar and brick. It was rebuilt at the end of the 15th century. A timber-framed tower, clad with planks, was erected in the early 20th century. Traces of numerous reconstructions remain. Currently, the church has two portals – north and west, the latter of which has unfortunately been bricked up. The original church furnishings have not survived, and its interior was completely changed in the 1990s. The church was consecrated on January 20, 1946.

A former Protestant cemetery is located on the church grounds. The necropolis was established in the 13th century on an area of 0.20 hectares. No historical tombstones remain within the cemetery, but a 50-meter-long fence wall built before the 17th century and two gates, also dating from before the 17th century, can be found. The church cemetery in Chwarstnica was added to the provincial list of historical monuments in November 2012. The Church grounds also include the Cursed Soldiers Monument, unveiled in 2023.

A stone with a plaque commemorating the so-called "cursed soldiers", i.e. those who did not lay down their weapons after the end of World War II and fought as partisans against the USSR and the Sovietization of Poland. The monument was unveiled in 2023.
