Bike Touring Highlight
The gasometer is more than an industrial monument. Since its decommissioning some twenty years ago, it has become the landmark of the city of Oberhausen and, moreover, the unmistakable hallmark of a whole region. Built in the late 1920s, Europe's largest disc gas tank impressively recalls heavy industry, which has shaped the Ruhr area for more than a century.
The Gasometer Oberhausen is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 to 18 clock, also on public holidays and in the NRW holidays also on Mondays.

The 45-kilometer-long canal leads from Duisburg to the Dortmund-Ems Canal.
It was built between 1906 and 1914 and cost 60 million Reichsmark. In its course, it follows the geological events of the Emscher Valley.
The canal becomes interesting due to its numerous bridges, most of which were built during the imperial era. He is accompanied by excellent bike paths.

Bridges nested together very well. I just wonder what the construction site must have looked like back then. Unfortunately, the bridges are not frequented enough.
