Cycling

Remains of an historic castle dating from about 1200. Can be reached by foot from the nearby road (about 100m of walking). Very different to many other historical sites in that you can walk on most of the remains (except for one part that is fenced off). Next door to a derelict farm and farm buildings which are also of interest (and supposedly haunted). More details on the castle at codnorcastle.co.uk Great views.

Hiking

Accessible with big dogs as the one stile you come across has a gap down the side - as all good stiles should have! Keep to the pink markers if approaching/crossing Ormonde Fields Golf Course, although most golfers are friendly. Codnor Castle Heritage Trust have reenactments here from time to time. Venturing further down the hill behind ( or in front?!) of the castle leads you across a small bridge to a gravel loop trail.
