The Ludwigsbrunnen (Ludwig's Fountain) is the oldest fountain in the spa gardens of Bad Homburg vor der Höhe.

It is a protected cultural monument.

In 1809, two children playing by the Kirdorf stream discovered this healing spring and sampled the sour, yet refreshingly tasting water.

The spring was enclosed as a fountain in 1809/10 at the instigation of Landgrave Friedrich V Ludwig and initially called the Upper or Salt Fountain. In 1835, it was renamed Ludwigsbrunnen in his honor.

At that time, the fountain was surrounded by a double ring of Italian poplar trees.

The water from the Ludwigsbrunnen was sold and shipped as mineral water starting in 1810.
