Park them. Stefan Żeromski is the second largest park on the left bank of Szczecin. It is situated in the very center of the city, next to the representative Wały Chrobrego. It covers an area of approx. 25 ha
The park was built on the site of former cemeteries, which were created in different years in selected places and on the outskirts of Fort Leopold and Wilhelm.
The so-called French (Evangelical Reformed) - was established in 1721 for the French community living in Szczecin and was located in the area of Kapitańska and Storrady streets. Today, this place is commemorated by three tall metal crosses.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the town banned burials in church and church cemeteries, therefore it was necessary to create new cemeteries. And just such a new cemetery was established in 1802 in the vicinity of ul. Matejko and Malczewski. It served all the inhabitants of the city and surrounding villages.
The neighboring cemeteries operated until the beginning of the 20th century, then they were gradually reduced and turned into a park.
After World War II, Szczecin was incorporated into Poland, new Polish names of streets and squares appeared. The park was named after Stefan Żeromski. The name is commemorated by a sculptural accent with a bas-relief of the writer (author Sławomir Lewiński 1978). It is located at the entrance to the park, near Matejki Street.
