The harbor is of utmost importance to Hirtshals. It is bustling year-round. The harbor of Hirtshals was built between 1919 and 1931 under the direction of engineer Jørgen Fibiger and expanded in 1966. The harbor of Hirtshals provides the basic conditions for the important industries of fishing, transport, and fish processing and is today one of the largest fishing ports in Denmark. Part of the harbor is closed to the public, but you can explore large parts of it by car or on foot and watch the boats landing their fish.
