The stretch of coast approximately 29 kilometers from Trapani to Marsala is called 'Via del Sale'. The history of obtaining salt from this place dates back to the Phoenicians, i.e. several thousand years ago, which is confirmed by archaeological works. On the other hand, written testimonies mention salinas much later. Salina Chiusicella is one of the oldest in this region and has been operating until the present day. Its year of foundation is1488.
