St. Joseph's ChapelReinhold BallwegThe charming St. Joseph's Chapel is a gem in the heart of Unterscheringen. It was built on the initiative of former needlework teacher Josefine Frank. After she moved from Scheringen in 1917, she went to Bondorf in the Black Forest to work as a housekeeper for a pastor. However, when he died, he bequeathed some money with the stipulation that a chapel be built in honor of St. Joseph. Upon returning to her parents' home in Scheringen, she repeatedly urged her nephew Markus Frank to build a St. Joseph's Chapel on his property. He then made the space available and began breaking and shaping stone in a local quarry. With the support of neighbors, with forest ranger Heinrich Scheuermann providing the wood, a small chapel was built in 1934. A few years later, a small tower with a bell followed. Since then, the little church has hosted monthly services and Sunday devotions....
