    Hiking

Bog woodland is an important habitat for many animals, insects and birds. This area has been preserved to allow them to flourish here. You are asked to stay on the boardwalks.

    Hiking

The area opposite the observation point is described as "bog woodland". The trees are Scots pine, but because they grow in wet peat soil they do not grow as tall even though they are the same age as larger trees nearby on normal soil. Swamp forest is a special ecosystem so that many birds, animals and insects can live together in a small place.

    Hiking

The present area is part of the old Caledonian pine forest, which used to cover 70% of Scotland and is now only 1% left. This area is especially popular with dragonflies, which you can observe here.
