The church was first mentioned in 1259. This is probably also the period of construction which is assumed. Due to the simple construction, it is further assumed that the church was built by the villagers themselves. The main altar inside is worth seeing and dates from the early 18th century. In the adjoining cemetery surrounding the church you can see very old graves of the village community of Castelnou.
