The first historical dates go back to the year 800 AD, in 1148 Hohnhausen was first mentioned. Since the town does not have its own church, it is part of the parish of Burgpreppach. The old forester's lodge was built around 1900 and is on the outskirts of the village. Surrounded all around by forest, this offered a large part of the citizens work and bread at that time.
