After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the border between Prussia and the Kingdom of the Netherlands was drawn here. At the time, the border was marked with wooden posts. After Belgium became independent in 1830, these wooden posts were gradually replaced from 1840 onwards by the robust stone ones that you can still see today. At the time, the border largely followed a medieval transport route that ran from Luxembourg via Stavelot to Liège.

Boundary marker 105 (also known as Borne du Pas d'Âne) marks a strategic and elevated starting point on this route. Situated at an altitude of almost 600 meters, this marker stands proudly at the junction where the old municipal boundaries of Wanne, Grand-Halleux, and Recht intersected. Just around the corner lies the well-known passage Pas d'Âne. From this striking stone, the Prussian and Belgian border commissioners followed the historic 'Grand Chemin', the ancient transport route between Stavelot and Luxembourg.
