Bus ruins at 759 m, buses

There has been a castle here since the 13th century at the latest. Whether it belonged to the imperial estate or to one of the ministerial families cannot be said. The Habsburgs acquired it around 1281 as household property and wanted to expand the busses to fortify it. Noble bailiffs managed the property from here. Aristocratic families were obliged to wear a "Burghut", meaning they had to do service in times of war.

In the 14th century, the stewards of Waldburg received the buses as a pledge, the mountain belonged to their "lordship of buses", which, however, remained a fief of Austria. The Swedes destroyed the castle in December 1633 during the Thirty Years' War. Because Dürmentingen was now the administrative seat of the rule, the Bussenburg was not rebuilt. It fell into disrepair and was used as a quarry.

In 1785, Prince Anselm von Thurn und Taxis acquired this dominion. Around 1870, the House of Thurn and Taxis secured the ruined complex and prepared the well-preserved remains of the keep as a vantage point. The ruins testify to rule and politics, they call for peace and understanding.

The holy mountain of Upper Swabia!

cycled from the north side, great all-round view despite high fog.

Please note that cycling is not permitted in some areas!

Unfortunately, only the tower of the ruined bus still stands, but you can climb the stairs and go up. Up there you can enjoy the wide view.
