The Aarø ferry operates between the island of Aarø and Årøsund on the mainland.

Today's ferry was deployed on the route on May 1, 1999. The ferry can accommodate 12 cars and 98 passengers.

The ferry runs daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. The crossing takes 8 minutes. It is not possible to reserve a seat, but board the ferry on a first-come, first-served basis.

Before 1965 there was no car ferry to Aarø. There was only one boat for transporting people. Larger items were shipped in barges. From 1931 to 1965 a cargo ship sailed to Haderslev on Mondays and Fridays. It also went to Assens once a week. Before that time, crossings took place in rowing boats, where a transfer cost a day's wages.
