    Beautiful cross in the Durbachtal

Replica of the cross at the original location, text on the information board:
      swedish cross
During the Thirty Years' War (1632) Swedish troops came to Durbach.
According to tradition, at this point, the Mühlhöflebuckel, a miller's servant was killed near the mill that existed at the time. This stone cross was later erected to commemorate this crime.
The original cross was stolen in 1982 and was found again. It is in the Durbach Wine and Local History Museum. This duplicate was built by donations in 2007. Sculptor: Erwin Spinner

The so-called "Swedish crosses" are memorial crosses in memory of people killed as victims of the troops that were marching through the country at the time. In the strict sense of the word, they are not expiatory crosses, because they were to be erected by the perpetrators - as part of the atonement (penance) for their crime.
