Location: Dreifelden, Westerwaldkreis, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany
With an area of 123 hectares, the Dreifelder Weiher or Seeweiher (mostly a nature reserve) is the largest in the Westerwald lake district. Especially its southern part is an extraordinarily valuable breeding bird biotope. At the time of bird migration, resting waders from Northern Europe and osprey can be observed here from a hidden observation tower near the village of Dreifelden.
The lake district was actually only laid out in the late 16th century by the Counts of Wied as a fish farm, so the waters are neither lakes nor ponds according to technical categories, but ponds.
