This breeding station came into being after the Charles Darwin Center on Santa Cruz. For over 40 years, the survival of the giant tortoise breeds on Isla Isabela has been taken care of.
Funds come from national park entry fees and donations. Volunteer work is also an important part of the effort.
The complex has also been deliberately made more attractive for tourists.
