The wooden eagle sculpture in Schellerten (Hildesheim district) is a striking local landmark with a rather charming, if somewhat curious, history. The sculpture was not created in a workshop, but directly on site. Originally, there was an old, rotten poplar tree at the prominent intersection (B1 / Bauernstraße). Instead of simply felling the tree completely and removing the roots, a creative solution was chosen. A local artist (often the chainsaw carver Jörg Sobeck is associated with such works in the region) transformed the remaining tree stump into the imposing eagle.
