The last part of the route ran along a dried-up branch of the Koppelsprengen. Now at the crossroads you have arrived at the main branch that you follow further to the right and upstream.
The Koppelsprengen were dug in the 17th and 18th centuries to provide water to two downstream paper mills. This groundwater flowing from the slope of the Veluwe moraine provided the energy to drive the water wheel and the process water for making paper.
The springs have a unique flora and fauna with their clear, lime-poor water. Examples: the yellow-green flowering pair-leafed goldfish in April/May, the partly evergreen fern species double-leaved and, during the spawning season - around February - the brook lamprey, a small eel-like, jawless fish.
