On the market square next to the church of the Aegidia is the Maria Hilf chapel. It was rebuilt in the years 1860/1861. The predecessor building probably came from the construction of the Aegidienkirche. Every Wednesday bread was distributed to the poor in the so-called bread chapel. Johann Wolf reported that this chapel existed as early as 1405 and has always served as the meeting place of the help plumbers for elementary needs.

In the northern entrance area of the Heiligenstadt Church of St. Aegidien there is a small round chapel. The Heiligenstadt Marienkapelle, also known as the “Maria-Hilf-Kapelle”, is one of the most frequently visited religious sites in Heiligenstadt. It was created in its current form in the years 1860 and 1861. In the simple interior of the building there is a larger than life statue of the Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus.
