One of two churches in Stromboli and like many churches in the Aeolian Islands dedicated to Saint Bartholomew.

Beautiful old church. Also worth seeing from the inside!

The church of San Bartolomeo dates back to the 18th century and was desired and built with passion and sacrifice by the people of the island of Stromboli, in the Pisicité district. The commitment of the municipality was great and was also able to count on the donations of numerous Sicilians who had emigrated abroad. The church, which was also equipped with an oil mill, represented an important gathering point for the farmers who went there to press the olives. The place is reached by a few steps that lead to the large churchyard: inside you can admire 19th-century stuccoes and a cross dome decorated with gold and blue stars. In 2002 the church was closed to the community when a strong earthquake caused major damage to the entire structure, rendering it unusable.
        It has now been renovated.
