The monument at 'de Lange Vlieter' reminds the inhabitants of Beegden (municipality of Maasgouw) of the six crew members of the Wellington MK III X 3420 of the Canadian 426th squadron, who were killed during an air battle with a German night fighter. Their bomber ended up at the mill in Beegden.
