Ao Chaloklum is a long bay in the north of Koh Phangan with a beach about two and a half kilometers long. Approximately in the middle is the main town of Chaloklum. The fishing village is known for its dried squid and has always been one of the most authentic places on Koh Phangan, as the village has largely been spared the influence of tourism in the past.

There are some beautiful stretches of beach on both sides of Chaloklum. In the extreme east and west of the bay, the beach is the most beautiful and the water is clean. In the east, most of the beach bungalows, hotels and guest houses emerged. The west, on the other hand, is quiet with lots of trees. A breakwater off the coast offers protection from the surf here.

Due to the harbour, the water around the central part of the bay is a little murky and less suitable for swimming. Unfortunately, due to fishing, the coral reef has been destroyed in most parts of the bay.

Swimming is only available at high tide during low tide seasons. When the weather comes over the Gulf of Siam and meets the surrounding mountains, the sea can get quite rough with high winds and the waves breaking on the reef quite high. Guests looking for a spot with good swimming should head to the nearby bays of Haad Khom and Haad Thong Lang.
