"The towpath on the Leidsche Rijn:
3 x a week for 20 cents from Harmelen to Utrecht…."In 2015, the renovation of the towpath from the village bridge towards Woerden was carried out. The section from the bridge to Utrecht was renovated last year. The Hugo Kotestein Foundation supplied the texts and photos for the information boards. This makes the history of the towpath legible and visible.
At the edge of the village is a picture of a barge with the following text:
With the barge along the towpath. In 1663, the cities of Utrecht, Woerden and Leiden decided to build a towpath along the Leidse/Oude Rijn, with the aim of promoting shipping traffic with barges. The locks Heldam and Haanwijk are being improved to ensure smooth passage.
