Geologically, the Stenzelberg is a spring dome made of the volcanic rock latite, whereby the rising magma did not reach the earth's surface, but remained stuck in the surrounding tuff cover rock. Erosion later removed the softer tuff and exposed the harder latite.

The Stenzelberg has been used as a quarry for quartz latite since the 11th century. The rock was used, among other things, for the Propsteikirche in Oberpleis, the St. Nicholas Chapel in Heisterbacherrott and the Bonn Minster, and later also for the churches in Nieder-, Oberdollendorf and Asbach. Other buildings constructed in Stenzelberger Latit include the Heisterbacher Hof in Königswinter.[2]

A beautiful restaurant in a very peculiar and rare mix of half-timbered house and Art Deco. Very cozy historic restaurant, nice operators and very tasty food. We liked it so much that we stopped in a second time on the way back from our tour. Unreservedly recommended. A real highlight.
