    Brief description:

    Expelled in 1993

    Size 340.9 hectares

Near-natural floodplain landscape with water areas and strips of alluvial forest as a resting, feeding and breeding area, stepping stone for migratory birds, valuable fish and amphibian spawning zone, habitat for some endangered insects, especially ground beetles and wild bees, valuable food space for birds of prey.

Ballauf-Wilhelmswörth is the name of the largest nature reserve in Mannheim and an additional landscape protection area.

The nature reserve has a size of 340.9 hectares and is located in the extreme north-west of Mannheim. It runs like a tube along the eastern bank of the Rhine and belongs to the northern part of the Upper Rhine lowlands. The alluvial forest in this area is one of the original alluvial forests in the region, along with the Reißinsel. The areas next to the alluvial forest have a variety of small-structured habitats. The species-rich avifauna and the large variety of insects should be emphasized. The nature reserve was designated on December 27, 1993 to secure and preserve it.

The landscape protection area of the same name (protection area number 2.22.007) was already designated on June 18, 1980 and originally also included the areas of the nature protection area. The remaining area is directly adjacent to the nature reserve to the east and has a size of 42.8 hectares.
