The Romanesque church building had two towers at the end of the 12th century. It was placed under the patronage of the Dominican monastery in 1296. In 1267, the bailiffs of Weida, Heinrich von Plauen and Heinrich von Gera, documented the donation of the St. Catherine's altar in St. Peter's Church in Neustadt-Weida by the priest Sibot and, as feudal lords, confirmed the endowment of the altar with goods from Kunsdorf (Groß- and Kleinkunsdorf), Schömberg, Neundorf, Bocka (Groß- and Kleinbocka) and in the town of Weida.
