In the immediate vicinity of Castelletto, with its unique profile framed by the gullies of Monte Caverna, stands the eighteenth-century church of S. Apollinare ...
This imposing eighteenth-century construction, in typical Po Valley colours, stands on the site of a previous parish, documented in an imperial diploma from the ninth century. On the one hand, the name of the titular saint of this Church recalls a famous Byzantine basilica in Ravenna, on the other, the desolate environment, in the middle of a plain surrounded by reliefs, would be perfectly suited to a Romanesque Abbey. The ancient history of S. Apollinare is intertwined with that of the Lateran canons of Monteveglio on whom it was dependent, while the architectural history of the building sees some renovations in the 17th century and a reconstruction in the second half of the 18th century by the Ambrosi family.
