Leopold Reitz was born on June 24, 1889 in Böbingen. He was a teacher in Neustadt, where he was also the cultural director. He became known as a writer and local poet. He was a co-founder of the Palatinate Wine Brotherhood and was its first master of the order. However, he was also an active member of the NSDAP and a local group leader in Neustadt and other National Socialist organizations. He was punished for this after the war, but later received awards such as the Federal Cross of Merit, the Neustadt Citizen's Medal and honorary citizenship of Böbingen.
