The Neptune fountain was built by Johann Jakob Reich in 1763 and is the oldest of the three fountains made of red sandstone on the market square. In the 18th century, the well water had to be conducted to the market square in Teuchel pipes (tree trunks drilled through) from the Langenwald springs near Freudenstadt.
