In October 2007 there was a massive rock fall from the top of the mountain on the northern slope of the Einserkofel. A tremendous amount of rock fell down from the top of the mountain, causing a large dust and rock avalanche when it reached the lower scree field. People were not harmed. However, the mountain path to the Zigmondy hut was completely destroyed and subsequently had to be completely rebuilt. There is an information board (see photo) at the large Fischleintal car park.
