According to old chronicles, there was a castle on the Hammelberg north of the village, which was destroyed several times by the Augsburgers. A family of knights who called themselves "de Hamel" and which presumably served the Bishop of Augsburg, had settled there. The division into main and outer bailey as well as ramparts and graves can still be seen very well today. The burial site of the von Stetten family, laid out in 1895, is currently located on the site of the former main castle.
