At almost 150 hectares, the city park in Winterhude is the third largest green area in the Hanseatic city. In 2014, the Winterhude city park, the Altona public park and the Hamburg green administration celebrated their centenary. Today, as then, the park serves for relaxation, leisure activities and features art objects.
A 35-hectare part of today's city park was once the private hunting ground of the respected Hamburg businessman Adolpf Sierich. This "Sierra wood" was sold by his heirs to the city of Hamburg in 1901 and a year later work began on converting it into a city park. Additional green spaces were added for this purpose. In 2014, the Winterhuder city park celebrated its 100th anniversary together with the Altonaer Volkspark and the Hamburg green administration. For the anniversary year, various flower systems, park paths, playgrounds and the planetarium were spruced up and expanded for around 1.6 million euros.
Especially in summer, you can relax around the sunbathing area, which is officially called the festival area. It was and still is the central location in the park. Hundreds of locals and visitors alike come to Winterhude. The green areas of the city park serve as a popular meeting place and sunny place to relax in the Hanseatic city.
But the city park is not only the right address for meeting and relaxing; music lovers also get their money's worth on the large meadows. In summer, thousands of music lovers flock to the open-air stage to experience the annual city park concerts.

Where game was once hunted, things get busy when the weather is good: young and old meet on the large city park lawn to play football, have a picnic, sunbathe and fly a kite. At the edge of the large meadow is a playground with a giant swing, slide and lots of equipment.
The recreation area in the Winterhude district has remained Hamburg's green oasis and a public park, in keeping with the ideas of its founders. In summer, the Stadtparksee becomes an outdoor swimming pool - separate from it you can also ride pedal boats and rowing boats. If that's too strenuous for you, you can also steer your model boat in the pond of the same name.
With its more than 150 hectares, the Hamburg city park is a real “multicultural location”. On nice weekends, more than 200,000 visitors often come here to take advantage of the wide range of leisure activities on offer and do sports, barbecue, make music or simply relax. A deep water basin is particularly popular with little water lovers. The trees, bushes and embankments are home to a variety of native and immigrant animal and plant species, and in summer the open-air stage invites you to interesting open-air concerts: from rock to folk, world-famous artists always like to come to "the park".
In and around the city park there are of course also cafés and restaurants that entice guests with small snacks and delicacies. The “Schumachers” beer garden, which is located directly at the Stadtparksee outdoor pool, is very popular for evening events. Other locations to relax include the beer garden “Landhaus Walter”, “Café Sommerterrassen” and “Die Bucht”.
The planetarium in the former water tower is always worth a visit: in addition to a unique journey through the universe, it also regularly offers wonderful children's documentaries and chill evenings.

Beautiful and huge green area "in the middle of the city". Open air concerts and the planetarium are particularly recommended. And the large meadow. And the outdoor pool. And...
