After centuries of eventful history, the Basilica of Our Lady practices Catholic worship.
Built between 1852 and 1857, the Basilica of Our Lady is the main Catholic church in Geneva. Located next to the Cornavin train station, it is a stopover for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. After an anticlerical government came to power, the basilica was occupied in June 1875 and then closed. In 1911, it was bought by the Catholic Church. Built in molasse, its architecture is inspired by the Gothic style of the 13th century.
