Citadelle de Corte

The viewpoint Belvedere offers a fantastic view of the Corsican mountains and the citadel of Corte

Old fortress above the city. The access is chargeable, but the entry also includes a visit to the adjacent (air-conditioned) museum. It has a nice view over the city.

An impressive structure. From the outside as well as from the inside.

The walk along the river Tavignano is not easy to find but is very nice.

The old citadel stands on huge rocks and offers an excellent view.

Mighty walls, the fortress still breathes the atmosphere of the Foreign Legion, which has not been present for almost 60 years.
From Wikipedia: "The Citadel of Corte is the only major military fortress inland. The rocky outcrop was already fortified in the 9th century. However, the castle was not built until 1419 under the Corsican adventurer Vincentello d'Istria, Viceroy of Aragon. Particularly impressive is the "eagle's nest", the southern tip of the rock spur. It can be reached via a staircase made of "Restonica marble". Inside the citadel there were originally small houses and a chapel. Louis XV and finally Louis XVI changed this part and started building the barracks. "

From the citadel you have a wonderful view of the Tavignano valley and of course Corsica's secret capital.
