The Work on the Daatselaar was intended to block off and defend the access to the Groeperkade and the Slaperdijk, both riverbanks in the Grebbe Line. It also served to protect the dam lock in the Lunterse stream, which is located directly in front of the work. Initially, a lunette and a redoubt were constructed in 1786 at a point northwest of the meeting point of the Slaperdijk and the Groeperkade. In 1799 the current work took over their defensive role. Because the work was at a position too far advanced in relation to the Valleistelling, no further reinforcements were made here in 1939-1940. In 2008 the work was again brought under profile.
