The forest-covered, approximately 40-acre lake is next to the Born and the Trinnensee as one of the three historic spring lakes of the Havel. These Havelquellseen lie on the southern edge of the main end moraine of the "Pomeranian stage" of the Weichsel icing and originally released their water in the south adjoining Diekenbruch, from which the Havel emerges.
