    From the ring of walls in Dinkelsbühl's old town, the road leads west towards Segringen. The originally mighty, four-story city gate was badly damaged in 1648 by the siege of Swedish troops during the Thirty Years' War and in 1649 - as an old chronicle puts it - "suddenly collapsed." It was hastily repaired, but collapsed again in 1651 and 1654. In 1655, Antonio Don rebuilt it in the Baroque style in its current form, complete with the characteristic onion dome. The imperial eagle is emblazoned on the gate facing the town. In the gate passageway there is a crucifixion scene with the symbol of high jurisdiction, as well as a stone staircase that leads directly down into the city moat.

      “In 1648, the Segringer Tor collapsed after a siege by Swedish troops and was rebuilt in 1655 in the Baroque style. The adjoining city wall secured the southwest flank of the city with numerous defensive towers. In the gate passage, a staircase leads down into the city moat. The wide Segringer Straße offers a charming view over the roofs of the old town to St. George's Cathedral.”

Western city gate, so-called Segringer Gate, five-storey plastered gate tower with cornice structure, onion dome and lantern, newly built by Antonio Don in 1655, stone staircase on the north wall, two-storey front gate on the field side with hipped roof and basket arch gate;
      Stone bridge over the former city moat, round arches made of sandstone blocks walled up.”
